Gas Company Lofts Rec Room – Architectural Photography Los Angeles

Set amidst the glitz and glamour of the city, the Historic Gas Company lofts are in this restored historical landmark and feature one- and two-bedroom loft apartments with amazing views of downtown Los Angeles.   The building was designed in the art deco style in the 1940s and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

I recently was commissioned to do architectural photography of the “urban cool” rec room, decorated by renowned interior designer Dawn Rosenmayr, of Rosenmayr Interiors, known for her talent for matching unique design elements to perfectly enhance the personality of the space.

Although this room provides a great ambiance and modern area for residents to hang out and lounge, for my purposes the space was fairly tight.   The rooms are filled with unique furniture and accessories, making it imperative that the lighting I employed accent the installed design.

The challenge with this property was light augmentation rather than creating a look and feel.   With interior designers, often there is a lighting design in place. Even though my lighting is present and adding to the overall image, it is crucial that its presence be nearly imperceptible to the viewer.

It’s important that I don’t change the concept of the interior designer with my lighting. Projects like this require that I simply enhance the lighting that was there.  The only major retouching here was removing creasing and wrinkling of the curtains.  This was extensive and took up most of the post-production budget.

Obviously, this job required my traveling to L.A., which is a normal part of my routine.   I have traveled all over the U.S. and Canada for a variety of jobs and am very experienced in coordinating with on-site personnel.

The Historic Gas Company Lofts is in a perfect location in downtown Los Angeles, and are walking distance to a metro station, several bus stops and have easy access to major freeways.   They are also close to grocery and home goods shopping, Staples Center, and of course, Downtown LA’s best restaurants and nightlife.   They offer luxury amenities, including covered resident parking, complimentary gym membership at Gold’s Gym, concierge, door attendant and are even pet friendly.
